For
a number of years, Alaska Adventures has been conducting some
special trips for a couple of groups, which generally return
for annual outings with us. These special trips came about
during discussions sitting around the campfire and throwing
out ideas on where the following year's trip would take place.
Good fishing remained the central emphasis, but interest was
very high for trips where chances of seeing other groups was
nonexistent and traveling virtually unfished waters. After
indicating there were a number of enticing streams observed
during years of guiding big game hunts, streams with very
limited access, and minimal signs of human activity, these
special trips came into being.
These
trips are intended to access very remote locations with minimal
or no human activity. Trip routes are selected to afford good
fishing and wildlife viewing opportunities. Expect logjams
and other obstacles to occasionally impede progress downstream.
Moose, bear, caribou and various other wildlife along stream
corridors. Not unusual to view abandoned village and old native
home sites, trapper's cabins and areas of early historical
activity. Tent camping all along route. Trips will begin and
end in designated Alaska villages. Trips are generally not
strenuous, but participants must be capable of occasional
physical activity during the course of the trip.
|
Guests
on our other trips became aware of these special trips and several
approached us about participating. As most were individual or
two-somes, we had to reluctantly turn them down. To conduct
these special trips a minimum of six participants is necessary
to be cost effective. These trips begin in small villages and
usually require helicopter support to ferry equipment and supplies
from a forward location to our starting point. In addition,
several days before the trip begins a couple of guides are dropped
off to hike into the area to determine the exact location to
ferry the equipment and supplies.

Alaska
Adventures would like to offer these special trips to all our
guests
however, we want to emphasize that these trips are not just
another float trip, as there are generally a number of barriers
and obstacles such as log jams or beaver dams to work our way
around. The locations for these trips are selected to ensure
that the stream systems support healthy fish populations of
various species, and no known fly-in fishing enterprises have
easy access or are known to use. Why us and not them? Cost,
associated with difficulty to access the stream systems - as
we profoundly experienced on our initial trips. Generally it
takes a couple of days and various means to get all our gear
to an appropriate stream location before a trip begins.
|
Once
a trip begins, we usually don't know anymore than you do about
what's around the next bend, or where our next campsite will
be. These trips are usually ten days long. Our Special Trips
are intended for those wanting to experience something out of
the ordinary by traveling into areas seldom accessed by anyone.
Great fishing will continue to be the focal point for these
trips, along with a heavy dose of Alaska's wilderness - where
anything can happen. Interested individuals
and others not affiliated with a group of six or more, can sign
up to be placed on a "group list". The List
will be filled on a first come basis. |
|

Groups
with six or more participants may apply for exclusive trip
dates. The window for these trips generally will
be between the last week in July and the end of August. This
time period offers the best overlap of different species in
the stream systems.
Alaska
Adventures will continue to drop and add streams to ensure
our trips are of the highest quality. Our regularly scheduled
trips provide this standard by traversing minimally impacted
areas of the state. This Special Trip offering carries this
standard and the wilderness experience factor to a higher
level.
